It’s been 30 years since I first encountered and began reading the great American theologian Jonathan Edwards. It may be an understatement to say that I have been captivated by the erudition and theological vision on display in his many sermons, notebooks, and treatises. In order to cast Edwards into a fresh form, I have launched a new book series: Theology and the Art of Temptation. Written from a diabolical perspective, these short books imaginatively weave Edwards’s theology with the reality of the unseen realm.
Theology and the Art of Temptation unveils the craft of spiritual manipulation by Senior devil Doctor Freefall and his sly apprentice Slidefoot through their devious correspondence. They twist theological truths and prey on human weaknesses. This series is unique, enriched by selections from Jonathan Edwards’s theological notebooks and his other writings, combined with stories of the tempted and Doctor Freefall’s diabolical advice to Slidefoot. These guides to leading souls astray are a blend of historical theology and devilish cunning that will captivate and educate scholars, seekers, and the curious alike.
